Review: Closing Event
June 30, 2026 – Closing event for the ZUKAMAS research project
This question was the focus of the ZUKAMAS research project. To present the project’s results, a closing event was organised in Karlsruhe on June 30, 2026.
The project’s goals included, among other things,
- gaining a better understanding of the development of urban trees and their reaction to stressful situations over extended periods of time,
- identifying tree species that are best able to cope with the long-term effects of climate change,
- and, through dialogue with the local community, learning more about the (cultural) value of urban trees.
In addition to the project team, the event was attended by researchers from the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS)—including Deputy Director Constanze Scherz—as well as representatives from the Innovation Campus for Sustainability (ICN), various associations and NGOs from Karlsruhe, and the Karlsruhe Natural History Museum. Ms. Susann Neupert from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts (MWK) was also in attendance.
Following a review of the project’s progress, the respective subprojects presented their findings. The event concluded with an open discussion session.
The results of the respective subprojects can be found on the following pages
